Hurricane Preparation Services & Guidelines

When a major storm threatens our area, protecting your property is our top priority. Miami Awning is here to help you safeguard your investment. Follow our professional guidelines below to secure your awnings and shade structures before a hurricane strikes.

When Should You Remove Your Awning?

We do NOT recommend removing or taking down your awning unless a formal Hurricane Warning has been issued for your area, with projected winds exceeding 75 mph.

Only take down your fabric structures when it becomes imminent that a major storm is making landfall in your direct vicinity.

Emergency Awning Take-Down Instructions

If a hurricane is imminent, please follow these steps to secure your awning and prevent structural damage to your property:

1. Cut the Ropes

Do not worry about preserving the lacing rope—it is designed to be easily replaced. Simply use a utility knife to cut the ropes just above the grommets (the brass eyelets).

2. Secure Your Awning (Based on Type)

  • For Wall-Attached Awnings & Canopies: Once the ropes are cut, carefully roll the fabric tightly upward toward the top of the frame where it meets the building wall. Securely tie the rolled fabric to the frame at both ends and at several intervals along the middle.
  • For Freestanding Awnings & Cabanas: Cut the ropes as instructed above. If possible, roll the fabric up directly on the frame and tie it down securely. Alternatively, carefully pull the fabric down to the ground, fold and roll it tightly, and store it safely inside a garage, shed, or secure indoor space.

⚠️ CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING: Failure to remove or securely tie back your awning fabric during high-wind events can lead to severe damage to the awning frame, and may cause significant structural damage to your home or commercial building.

Post-Storm Re-Installation & Recovery

Once the storm has passed and it is safe to do so, our team will begin the recovery and re-installation process.

To help our community recover as quickly as possible, re-installation priority is given to our hotel, hospitality, and commercial business clients to assist them in reopening safely. Residential re-installations will follow immediately after.

Need Assistance or Have Questions?

If you need advice on securing your awning, or if you would like to schedule a post-storm inspection and re-installation, our team is here to help.
